Morning showers a thing of past as high pressure takes hold over Tampa Bay

The Tampa Bay area should see plenty of sunshine to close out this week as an area of high pressure begins to move east toward the Gulf of Mexico, virtually eliminating those pesky early-morning storms.

For Thursday, afternoon temperatures will rise to around 92 with partly cloudy skies across the Tampa Bay area. By the late afternoon, a southwesterly air flow will begin to push scattered showers inland, producing a 20-30 percent chance of rain, according to the National Weather Service.

Those showers should clear up shortly after the sun goes down. Overnight temperatures will drop to the mid 70s with partly cloudy skies. Storms may begin to brew off the coast of Tampa Bay before dawn.

EXTENDED FORECAST: The 10-day outlook for the Tampa Bay area

There won’t be many changes by Friday. Tampa Bay will continue to enjoy a bright, sunny day, and temperatures will reach to the low 90s by the afternoon. Evening showers are expected with a 30 percent chance of rain.

Over the weekend, both Saturday and Sunday look to have similar conditions. An area of high moisture is expected to move into Tampa Bay, increasing the chance of isolated showers and thunderstorms to 40 percent on both days. Temperatures will rise to the upper 80s to the low 90s by the afternoon.
