Disney releases drone video of Star Wars land under construction

Star Wars and drones are always a welcome pair, and Disney fed the appetite for news of the new theme park areas under construction by releasing flyover drone footage of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, the sprawling themed area that’s set to open next year at Disneyland in Anaheim.

It may just be scaffolding, but it’s set to the John Williams’ theme so we can at least appreciate the sheer size of the project. Make sure you watch to till the end for the animated shot at how the park will look upon completion.

The highly anticipated Star Wars lands won’t debut at Disneyland until 2019 and possibly a year later in Orlando’s Walt Disney World. No official opening dates have been announced. There are also plans for a highly immersive hotel that will make guests feel like they are on board a space ship.

Disney CEO Bob Iger shared the video during the company’s annual shareholder’s meeting this week and said, "Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is shaping up to be one of the most detailed and immersive lands ever created in Disney parks."

Both east and west coast versions of Star Wars lands will emulate a remote trading port on the edge of wild space, putting visitors in the middle of the action among Star Wars characters in a battle between the First Order and the Resistance.
