Halloween happenings in Pasco and Hernando counties

From family events that include games and trick-or-treating for the young ones to spine-tingling haunted houses for thrill-seekers to costume contests for pets, there is plenty to do this Halloween season in Pasco and Hernando counties (and a few in Citrus and Sumter counties worth traveling to):

Scream-A-Geddon: 7:30 p.m. daily through Nov. 3, at 27839 Saint Joe Road, Dade City. Features numerous haunted attractions spread across 60 acres. New this year is Rage 3D, Demon's Revenge and Zombie Paintball Assault, in which participants hunt, shoot and "kill" zombies. Halloween Spooky Train: Sunset Ride (good for all ages) is 6 to 7 p.m., Fright Rides (with scary effects and live actors) run from 7:15 to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays through Oct. 27 at The Concourse/Pasco Safety Town, 11919 Alric Pottberg Road, Shady Hills. $3 per ride; ages 1 and younger free. Escape the Box - Live Halloween Edition: Halloween escape room offered through Oct. 31 at Time Trap Escape Room, 8042 Old County Road 54, New Port Richey. Open 6 to 11:50 p.m. Fridays, noon to 11:50 p.m. Saturdays, noon to 4:30 p.m. Sundays; also 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 25, and 6:30 to 11 p.m. daily Oct. 29-31. Featuring a live character option. Halloween Haunted House: Opens at 7 p.m. Oct. 26-27 at Hernando Historical Museum, 601 Museum Court, Brooksville. Roam all three floors and the attic of one of the oldest restored houses in Brooksville, then exit through several scare zones. Recommended for ages 8 and older. Younger children can enjoy a children's maze, games, trick-or-treating, stories and marshmallow roasting around a fire pit. Hot dogs, soda, water and homemade baked goods available for purchase. Last ticket sold at 11 p.m. Admission to the outdoor festival is free. Cost to enter the haunted house is $7 adults, $5 ages 11 and younger, $1 children's maze. Call (352) 835-1535.

Haunted Tram Rides: 6 to 10 p.m. Oct. 26 and 27, Homosassa Springs State Wildlife Park, 4150 S Suncoast Blvd., Homosassa. Pepper Creek Trail is transformed for a spooky tram ride with a haunted house and costume contests. $7, $3 ages 12 and younger; $2 haunted house only. Powell Middle School Fall Festival: The annual event will be 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 26 at Powell Middle School, 4100 Barclay Ave., Spring Hill. There will be haunted rooms, games and music. Food will be available for purchase. $5 for children, free for adults. Call (352) 797-7095.

Arc Nature Coast Halloween Dance: 7 to 10 p.m. Oct. 26 at Arc Nature Coast Education Center and Regional Evacuation Shelter, 6495 Mariner Blvd., Spring Hill. Music by PJ the DJ Lobato. The party is for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, who can come dressed in costume; prizes for the scariest, funniest and most original costumes. Volunteers welcome. Darker 48 Upside Down Haunted House: Opens at 8 p.m. Oct. 25-27 at Marker 48 Brewing, 12147 Cortez Blvd., Spring Hill. A family-friendly haunted house will be from 7 to 10 p.m. Oct. 31. All dates, except Oct. 31, are for adults 18 and older only. Proceeds benefit the Arc Nature Coast, United Way of Hernando County, Children's Advocacy Center of Hernando County and National Alliance on Mental Illness Hernando. $10. Call (352) 606-2509.

Trunk or Treat Festival: 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 26, Benes Career Academy parking lot, 698 S Broad St., Brooksville. Vendors will be set up throughout the parking lot with decorated trunks and candy. With face painting, bounce houses, carnival games and refreshments available. This is a fundraising event to benefit Eckerd Connects Youth Alternatives. Call (352) 593-2259.

Dade Battlefield Halloween Event: 7 to 9:30 p.m. Oct. 26-27, Dade Battlefield Historic State Park, 7200 County Road 603, Bushnell. Featuring the Scouts' Toxic Waste Trail and "Creepy Carnival Comes to Dade," with a haunted trail and side shows. Free parking. Admission is $3; free for children younger than 6. Halloween in the Gardens: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 27 at Nature Coast Botanical Gardens, 1489 Parker Ave., Spring Hill. Dress in costume and enjoy refreshments, games and prizes in the gardens. Spook-tacular: 6 to 11 p.m. Oct. 26 and 27, at Pioneer Florida Museum, 15602 Pioneer Museum Road, Dade City. Two scare levels to choose from. Ages 12 and younger can stroll through a Hocus Pocus-themed trail. Wesley Chapel Fall Festival: 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 26, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 27-28, at the Grove at Wesley Chapel, Wesley Grove Boulevard, Wesley Chapel. Oct. 26 will be a Glow Party. Oct. 27 and 28 includes live musical entertainment, pumpkin patch and various activities. On Oct. 27 there will be a pet costume contest at 11 a.m., and Trunk or Treat at 4 p.m. with prizes for best trunks and best costumes. Spooktacular: 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 27 at Avalon Park West Community Center, 5227 Autumn Ridge Drive, Wesley Chapel. Wear a costume for a spooky night of haunted houses, costume parades, food and music. Free admission. Call (813) 783-1515.

Halloween Howl: 4 to 9 p.m. Oct. 27, throughout historic downtown Zephyrhills (along Fifth Avenue). Main Street Zephyrhills presents this event that includes food and merchandise vendors, games, a safe trick-or-treat zone, hay rides, haunted house and other activities. Free. Call (813) 780-1414.

Pumpkin Fest: All ages are invited to participate in pumpkin-related activities from 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 27 at the Land O' Lakes Library, 2818 Collier Parkway, Land O' Lakes. There will be pumpkin decorating, pumpkin golf, pumpkin bowling, pumpkin toss, pumpkin carving and more. Masquerade Party: 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. Oct. 27 at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 6193 Spring Hill Drive, Spring Hill. Hosted by the Latin American Civic and Cultural Association. Trick or Treat Downtown New Port Richey: 5:30 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31. Downtown merchants invite families to dress up and stop by for candy and other treats. Journey Church will provide sidewalk games and activities for little ones along Main Street. A walking map will be made available prior to Oct. 27 at RockTheBoatFL.com and facebook.com/rocktheboatproductions, or available at participating locations.

Brooksville Elks Halloween Party: 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 31, Brooksville Elks Lodge 2582, 13383 County Line Road, Spring Hill. Open to the public. Costumes are encouraged. Karaoke by Terry Campbell. Admission is $5, includes finger foods; or $1 and bring a covered dish. Call (352) 799-7148.
