Partially overshadowed by the Bulls football team's latest 5-0 start is the fact that a pair of prominent women's scoring records appear on the verge of being eclipsed.
One could fall as early as this weekend, another this winter.
Junior soccer standout Evelyne Viens needs only one more goal to become the program's career scoring leader. Viens, who has 13 goals this year, tied Siri Nordby's career mark (41) last weekend against East Carolina.
She went scoreless in Thursday's 2-0 win at Tulsa, but gets her next shot Sunday at 2 p.m. at Memphis. The match can be watched live at this link.
Meantime, senior SG Kitija Laksa is preparing for her pursuit of the women's basketball team's all-time scoring mark held by Jessica Dickson (2,402 points).
Laksa, who recently played for her native Latvia in the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup, enters her final collegiate season sixth on the Bulls' career scoring list (1,715), and needs 688 points this season to break Dickson's record. She scored 717 as a junior.
