Tampa Bay Lightning

Joe Smith’s takeaways from Thursday’s Lightning-Canadiens game

Jonathan Drouin though he’d get a mixed reaction from fans in his first return to Tampa since his trade to the Canadiens last summer, but he got a muted one. He got no real cheers or loud boos, nor did he get a video tribute. In the crowd were several Drouin Lightning jerseys. One fan had a sign that read, ‘I’ll never let go, Jo."

Carey Price and Andrei Vasilevskiy are the likely All-Star goalies for the Atlantic Division in next month’s game in Tampa, and Thursday you saw why. Price put on a clinic in the first period to keep the Lightning off the board, and Vasilevskiy made several big-time stops.

Subtle — yet smart — move by the Lightning to move Tyler Johnson into the slot on the first power-play unit. Not only has Johnson been rolling lately, but as Fox Sports’ Brian Engblom points out, it gives the Lightning another right-shot threat when opponents converge on Nikita Kucherov.
