Admiral Farragut wears down in loss to Victory Christian

ST. PETERSBURG —Admiral Farragut got off to an impressive start this season, beating Delray Beach Village Academy and Auburndale Kingdom Prep by a combined 75-6.

But the Blue Jackets knew the real test came Thursday with a home matchup against Class 2A, No. 1 ranked Lakeland Victory Christian.

Everything worked perfectly for Admiral Farragut in the first half. The running game was eating up yards. The defense was smothering. And the kicking game provided the points with Lliam Davis hitting a 32-yard field goal just before the half.

The slim lead was not enough. The Storm bore down in the second half to win 10-3 and stay undefeated.

"This was a great game," Blue Jackets coach Rick Kravitz said. "You want to knock off No. 1 and get people to say that you're pretty good. I think (Victory) thinks we're pretty good after this."

Admiral Farragut (2-1) were already short-handed entering the game. Courtney Eubanks, one of the Blue Jackets' top playmakers, broke his jaw the previous week.

As Thursday's game wore on, so did Admiral Farragut. Players frequently fell to the ground or hobbled off the field with cramps.

"We started having guys coming off and put in others who hadn't played a lot, and we made some mistakes," Kravitz said.

Still, the Blue Jackets had their chances. On Victory Christian's lone touchdown, Admiral Farragut defenders let a pass slip through their fingers and into the hands of a Storm receiver in the end zone.

"We had our chances," Kravitz said. "We know we can play with the best."
