TAMPA — The Tampa Bay Buccaneers continued to makeover their secondary on Saturday when they invested their fourth-round pick in the 2016 NFL draft on cornerback Ryan Smith.
A small-school prospect out of North Carolina Central, Smith became the second corner taken in this draft by the Bucs, who drafted Florida cornerback Vernon Hargreaves III 11th overall on Thursday.
Scouts suggest the 5-foot-11, 189-pound Smith will eventually find his niche as slot corner in the NFL, but Smith believes he can help the Bucs in a variety of ways.
“You’re going to get my all and then some,’’ Smith said shortly after being selected 108th overall. “I know for a fact I’m going to be a major part for this team and I’m going to do everything I can to help them.”
