TAMPA — The Tarpons' Diego Castillo led the North squad to a 5-0 victory in the 57th Florida State League All-Star Game on his home field Saturday night.
The game MVP went 2-for-4 with two doubles and started the scoring for the North in the second inning before a crowd of 5,764 at Steinbrenner Field.
"It was a really good experience for my me and my life, for my career," said the 20-year-old Castillo, who is third on the Tarpons in RBIs (23) so far this season. " The last thing I think was to win the MVP."
The Threshers' Austin Listi also had a big night for the North, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs. It's little surprise Listi had the hot bat. The 24-year-old leads Clearwater with 45 RBIs and is second in home runs with nine.
After scoring a run in the second and third innings, the seventh inning was when the North put the game away.
Dunedin's Riley Adams hit a double to rightfield to score Daytona's TJ Friedl. Listi's single to leftfield scored Daytona's Brantley Bell and Adams for the final margin.
Many young boys lined up after the game waiting for Castillo to sign their baseball. One day they may see Castillo in the majors, joining former FSL All-Stars like A.J. Ramos (Mets), Joe Mauer (Twins) and Chase Utley (Dodgers).
"I was like them one time, 10 years ago, and I know how they feel if I sign a ball," he said.
