Plant City funeral director wins customer service award

PLANT CITY Those who work with Tammy Spurlock at Wells Memorial and Event Center say she’s all about customer service.

Spurlock, who has been funeral director at Wells Memorial for three years, recently received one of the top awards from the parent company, SCI.

“She just takes such good care of the families,” Wells Memorial Manager Verna McKelvin said.

Spurlock was singled out for receiving top ratings in customer satisfaction surveys conducted by J.D. Power.

“Wells Memorial had the highest score of any of our funeral homes in the region,” SCI regional marketing director Peter O’Connor said.

O’Connor said the feat is particularly impressive since Wells Memorial was very busy – arranging 350 funerals in the last year.

Spurlock said she was humbled by the honor. She said she loves her job and helping families in their time of need.

O’Connor, SCI South Florida Managing Director Steve Miller and area Human Resources Director Gloria Rodriguez joined Spurlock’s fellow employees in a surprise luncheon and award presentation.

Wells Memorial is the oldest Plant City funeral home, tracing its roots to the early 1900s.

Miller said Spurlock earned her Circle of Excellence Award by exceptional customer service.

“Tammy is well deserving of this award,” he said. “She makes all of us very proud.”
