Holiday man accused of child abuse
HOLIDAY - A 24-year-old Holiday man faces an aggravated child abuse charge in connection with an injury to a 7-week-old boy about two weeks ago, the Pasco County Sheriff's Office reported. The child suffered a skull fracture above his right eye and underwent a surgical procedure Jan. 22 at All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg, an arrest report said. Tristan Kyle Fields of 3448 Plaza Drive, Apt. V314, was arrested Friday and later released on $50,000 bond. The arrest report did not reveal Fields' relationship to the child.Fields told a detective that the boy was injured accidentally, the report said. Fields said he was holding the infant in his left arm and reaching for a bottle when the boy threw himself backward, causing Fields to lose his grip, the report said. Fields said he tried to use his leg to break the child's fall, but the boy struck the tip of his left shoe, the report said. The arrest report said the shoes Fields was wearing were made of a soft material and did not have a hardened or pointed tip. A doctor with the sheriff's child protection team said the injury wasn't consistent with Fields' account and that a 7-week-old child would not be able to throw himself the way Fields described, the report said.
