Residents warned after gator kills dog at Joe's Creek in St. Petersburg

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office is issuing a warning to pet owners after a woman's dog was killed by a 9-foot alligator at Joe's Creek in St. Petersburg on Wednesday.

A post on the Sheriff's Office Facebook page shows the gator, which attacked a 75-pound Chow mix.

Deputies responded to the woman's residence on Criswell Avenue, near the creek. She said the gator attacked and dragged her dog into the creek.

The dog was unable to be rescued, deputies said, and a trapper removed the gator from the creek.
