ST. PETERSBURG — Mazzaro’s Italian Market will be closed throughout the weekend after a warehouse fire broke out Friday.
A St. Petersburg Police officer noticed smoke coming from the market at 22nd Ave. N around midnight Friday, said St. Petersburg Fire Department Lt. Steve Lawrence. The officer called the fire department, which found the fire had started in the market’s dry storage area.
The fire burned for about 30 to 40 minutes, Lawrence said.
No one was in the building at the time, and there were no reported injuries.
The cause of the fire is currently undetermined, Lawrence said. He estimated the damage would be between $75,000 and $100,000. Beyond damages to the dry storage area, there was smoke throughout the building, Lawrence said. The front public area was not affected, but all product in the room was lost.
Managers of the store declined to comment Saturday morning, but said in a Facebook post that they had "quite a big mess to clean up."
