A fire engulfed a building that housed maintenance equipment at Tampa Yacht and Country Club on Thursday night, causing 27 horses that were stabled nearby to be evacuated, according to Tampa Fire Rescue.
Firefighters arrived to the fire at 5320 Interbay Boulevard around 10:20 p.m. and had the fire contained about 25 minutes later, officials said. Nobody occupied the building and no injuries were reported.
The horses' stables were located adjacent to the fire, firefighters say, and were evacuated by non-firefighters who were in the area.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated, department spokesman Jason Penny said, but it does not appear to be suspicious in nature.
Penny said the fire caused significant damage, although it's still not known if the building is a complete loss.
