Argument over dog leads to fatal shooting in Polk County

A Fort Meade man was killed Monday night and two others were wounded after Polk County deputies say they approached a man while searching for a lost dog.

The shooting occurred around 6:45 p.m. at the home of suspected shooter Charles Peddycoart, at 413 Third St. SW in Fort Meade, deputies said.

According to deputies, the men — all believed to have lived nearby at 121 Third St. SW — knocked on Peddycoart’s front door in search of the dog.

After an argument ensued, Peddycoart shot the three men near his front porch, deputies said.

Teconsa Tyree McDonald, 22, died at the scene, deputies said. Calvin Johnson, 30, and Edwin Burgess, 18, were hospitalized with gunshot wounds to the torso and underwent surgery.

Detectives are questioning Peddycoart, deputies said, and the circumstances behind the shooting are not yet known.
