Hit-and-run driver in fatal accident sought by law enforcement

A hit-and-run crash has left a Tampa man dead, his female passenger in critical condition and law enforcement in search of the man who was driving the vehicle that struck them from behind.

A Nissan Sentra was traveling north in the inside lane of U.S. 301 shortly after 11 a.m. near Gerry Lane on Sunday when it struck a Ford F-150 pickup traveling in the same lane, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The collision propelled the pickup across a raised concrete median and into the southbound lanes, where it overturned.

The F-150’s driver, Manuel Patino-Villa, 57, and female passenger, Maria Munguia-Villasenor, 55, were partially ejected from the vehicle.

Patino-Villa died at the scene. Munguia-Villasenor was taken to Tampa General Hospital and was listed in critical condition.

Two child passengers also were taken to the hospital. One-year-old Jeanette Vieyra sustained minor injuries and 13-year-old Jouri Vieyra had no injuries.

After the crash, the male driver of the Sentra abandoned the vehicle and got into a white Nissan driven by a woman, according to the Highway Patrol. The man was wearing red, white and black clothing. He was described by the Highway Patrol as African-American and the driver of the fleeing Nissan was described as Hispanic.

Anyone with information about the driver of the Nissan that left the scene is asked to contact the Highway Patrol at (813) 558-1800.
