TAMPA — Machines of war will unleash their fury in downtown Tampa on Wednesday afternoon, but it’s just a demonstration.
Special operations forces from around the world are scheduled to stage a mock confrontation of good guys versus bad guys from 1:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. outside the Tampa Convention Center.
The event will involve fast boats on the water, commandos dropped by helicopter, and Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn as a rescue target.
It’s part of the Special Operations Forces Industry Conference, which runs through Thursday.
The conference, put on by U.S. Special Operations Command and the National Defense Industrial Association, draws about 11,000 people and features a series of panel discussions and presentations plus an expo hall where defense contractors show their wares to military forces from across the globe.
