Brandon After-School Program Literally On The Ball
BRANDON - Onetime Chicago White Sox scout Tony Saladino III and former Houston Astros Class A player Donny Scolaro have the home-field advantage these days. They have returned to the South Brandon Little League, where they both learned to play baseball, and are now teaching young players to hone their skills on the field. In June, they opened the Saladino Baseball Academy summer camp. "We can spend time with these kids that the volunteer Little League coaches can't," Scolaro said. "We not only teach them baseball, but we teach them confidence." There are still openings for the remaining camp weeks: Monday to July 25, July 28 to Aug. 1, Aug. 4 to 8, and Aug. 11 to 15. The camp day runs from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The cost is $150 weekly for a full day or $100 for a half day.At the start of the school year, the academy will move to Foundation Christian Academy in Valrico. The after-school academy will be for children in kindergarten through fifth grade and run from 2 to 6 p.m. Aug. 18 to June 4, 2009. The cost will be $85 for five days. Students can attend the academy as many weeks as they wish. Call (813) 684-UCAN, e-mail info @saladinoba.com or visit www .saladinobaseballacademy.com.
