New night spot, Brandon Martini Live, opens on Lumsden Road

BRANDON - Brandon night spots have seldom been described with adjectives such as smooth, cool and upscale.

Yet Richard Bowe and his partners believe they have struck up just such a vibe at the new Brandon Martini Live. A recent Thursday night found diners relaxing inside the restaurant at Oak Park Plaza and patrons enjoying a cool night and the music of jazz saxophonist Marlon Boone and singer Cienna Alida on an expansive patio.

The night spot aims squarely at a 30 and older crowd with patrons enjoying craft cocktails, hand rolled cigars and live music ranging from Boone to Chuck Weirich to DJ Reggie. With 32 flatscreen televisions, it also stands as a great place to watch sports, including UFC Fights.

Formerly a sushi restaurant, Brandon Martini Live now features a full menu with shrimp and crab cake appetizers, flatbread pizzas, burgers, sandwiches and pineapple groove bowls. Bowe also boosted of his wings, which come with 40 specialty flavors including Georgia Peach, Crown Apple Cheesecake, Maple Bourbon and raspberry chipotle.

The craft cocktails at the full bar include "smoked" old fashions and a flavorful concoction called a Harmony Special. Of course, it couldn't be Brandon Martini without an array of choices in that class. Named after popular songs, the menu features 20 different choices, including Please Don't Go (Cosmo), Soul to Soul (Sunset), Pretty Brown Eyes (Bailey's Chocolate), Material Girl (Apple) and No Woman, No Cry (Mango).

Bowe and fellow partners Mike and Mark Mahovic and Stacey Dillon are all military veterans and felt like the Brandon area didn't really have a spot that fulfilled this niche. In its first six weeks, he said they're pleased with the steady increase in business. It held a grand opening late last month and promoted several events last weekend.

Brandon Martini Live at 795 Lumsden Road is open from 5 p.m. until closing Tuesday through Saturday, and 1 p.m. until closing on Sunday.
