Sen. Jack Latvala didn't exactly endear himself to Marion Hammer through the years.
Nearly two years ago, Latvala vehemently opposed the effort by Hammer to abolish the Southwest Florida Water Management District because of a dispute between the water agency and a Pinellas Park shooting club. Latvala wasn't much help in advancing an NRA measure nearly four years ago that would allow concealed weapons during evacuations.
With speculation about Latvala's future, the former president of the NRA has weighed in.
Below is an open letter to Latvala that Hammer has been blast emailing. It suggests what he can do with the political contributions he's collected for a gubernatorial run — donate $1 million to the Dyslexia Research Institute's scholarship fund.
It's a personal appeal from Hammer, who told Florida Trend in 2008 that she had a grandson who has dyslexia and that he attended a DRI laboratory school, Woodland Hall Academy, in Tallahassee.
