As Dreamers grow more anxious, little support comes from Florida Republicans

Calls are growing for a legislative solution for Dreamers but Florida Republicans are largely absent.

Only two of Florida's 16 GOP House members — Reps. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and Carlos Curbelo — signed onto a letter sent today to House Speaker Paul Ryan calling for action before the end of the year.

A third Miami lawmaker, Rep. Mario Diaz-Balart, has supported Dreamers and it's not clear why he is missing from the letter, which gained 34 total signatures.

"We agree with President Trump that executive action was not the appropriate process for solving this issue, as was done under the previous administration, and we believe Congress should act," the letter reads.

"We are compelled to act immediately because many DACA recipients are about to lose or have already lost their permits in the wake of the program's recession. Not acting is creating understandable uncertainty and anxiety among immigrant communities."

More than 33,000 Dreamers in Florida earned protection under DACA.
