Rep. Matt Gaetz on ‘exciting’ news about a possible Justice Department probe of Clinton

Conservatives are making some headway in their demands for an investigation into an array alleged misdeeds by Hillary Clinton, a prospect Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz finds "exciting."

"We cannot live in a world where just because Hillary Clinton lost an election she gets a de facto immunity deal," Gaetz, R-Fort Walton Beach, said Tuesday on Fox Business Network.

"We got exciting news last night that the Attorney General is open to appointing a special counsel to investigate …"

Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Tuesday pushed back on the immediacy of a special counsel to investigate Clinton, on everything from her email habits at the State Department to a uranium deal involving Russians. But he has asked senior prosecutors to look into the matter.

President Trump, under ever growing scrutiny in the Russian meddling, has repeatedly called for an investigation and has been irritated with Sessions. But such an order raises thorny questions for the Justice Department.

"I would say the Department of Justice can never be used to retaliate politically against opponents, and that would be wrong," Sessions testified Tuesday.
