Lucinda Williams, Drive-By Truckers coming to Jannus Live in St. Petersburg

Too bad if you don't already have a cabin on the upcoming Outlaw Country Cruise, which departs Tampa in January, and features acts like Steve Earle and Margo Price. It's been sold out for a while.

Thankfully, local station WMNF-88.5 FM is throwing you a life preserver. The listener-supported station is bringing the cruise's two headliners, Lucinda Williams and the Drive-By Truckers, over to St. Petersburg for a concert.

On Feb. 1, the day the cruise returns to the Port of Tampa, Williams and the Truckers will play a station event at Jannus Live in St. Petersburg.

Tickets will run $35-$40, and are currently scheduled to go on sale after WMNF's fall fund drive, around Oct. 11, "if we can hold off that long," said program director Randy Wynne.

Tickets will be available at WMNF and other outlets, and you should get them early, because this show will sell out either way. Both Williams and Drive-By Truckers are big enough to headline Jannus in their own right. And Williams, especially, has history there — she played several fondly remembered shows in the courtyard in the wake of her seminal 1999 album Car Wheels on a Gravel Road. In fact, Williams is playing Car Wheels in its entirety on an upcoming fall tour. It's not a long one, but perhaps she'll extend it into 2019, and grace the St. Pete crowd with a full-album performance here, too.

If that's not enough for all your Outlaw Country Cruisers out there, another chunk of the ship's lineup will be playing a local show for WMNF BEFORE the cruise. WMNF's Alt-Country Hoedown will take place Jan. 26 at Skipper's Smokehouse with Nikki Lane, Reckless Kelly, Dale Watson and his Lone Stars and Jason D. Williams. Tickets to that show are $30 and up.
