An icon of modern R&B is coming to town to warm your winter right up.
Mary J. Blige, the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul, is coming to Amalie Arena in Tampa on Feb. 21, part of her ongoing Strength of a Woman Tour. Tickets start at $47.25 and go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday.
It'll be Blige's first local show since 2015, a barn-burner of a performance at the USF Sun Dome that saw her blazing through hits like No More Drama and Family Affair. And the show announcement comes on the heels of yesterday's Golden Globe nominations, of which Blige scored two for the acclaimed movie Mudbound: Best Supporting Actress and one for Best Original Song (Mighty River). Perhaps by the time her Tampa concert comes around, she'll be an Oscar nominee, too.
"I try to write songs from a place of triumph, and a place of trials, too, because I still have trials, and I have triumphs," Blige said in a 2015 interview. "But I definitely try to write from both perspectives, because the world is not just all triumph."
