Rays VP Chaim Bloom interviews for Mets GM job

Rays senior VP Chaim Bloom is expected to be a candidate for several GM-level job this winter, and he reportedly had his first interview Wednesday, talking with Mets officials about their vacancy.

The New York Post's Mike Puma reported Wednesday that Bloom interviewed for the job. Andy Martino of SNY had a more nuanced report, tweeting that the Mets "did speak" to Bloom today, but also that "there are  more candidates talking to Mets less formally. "Interviews" aren't the only thing happening and might be too formal a word for this stage."

Bloom, 35, has been with the Rays for 14 seasons, working was up from intern to the No.2 job in the baseball operations department, working closely with GM Erik Neander on all areas.

Bloom has interviewed previously for GM jobs in Milwaukee and his native Philadelphia, and turned down an invitation to interview with Arizona.

The Mets have a long list of candidates, which reportedly includes Cardinals exec Gary LaRocque, current MLB exec Kim Ng, former Rangers GM Doug Melvin, and Nationals special assistant De Jon Watson.

Rays bench coach Charlie Montoyo was slated to interview this week for the Reds managerial job.
