LHP Blake Snell certainly gets the bulk of the credit for his remarkable season, and there's definitely some due to pitching coach Kyle Snyder. But don't ignore C Jesus Sucre, who Snell likes throwing to and has been both a good target and a calming influence.
The Rays don't really have much of a chance to win the final AL playoff spot, just 0.2 percent according to the computers at fangraphs.com. But there would be some excitement, and satisfaction, if they could at least make the Yankees sweat in next week's series at the Trop.
Most of the awards talk around the Rays is on LHP Blake Snell's good shot at the AL Cy Young and Kevin Cash's rise to at least runnerup status in manager of the year. But similar to how he plays, Joey Wendle keeps doing enough little things to stick in the top rookie conversation.
