What to watch this weekend: ‘Dark’ on Netflix, Carol Burnett special, Disney’s ‘A Christmas Carol’

Supernatural saga: Dark

Netflix's new family saga Dark is a German-language drama (with English subtitles) that involves a series of disappearing children and stranger, supernatural elements. The premise will seem familiar to fans of Stranger Things and It: Children in a small town have vanished, and there's something strange going on in that town. But the series puts its focus not on who kidnapped them or how, but when. In the trailer, a voice says, "Yesterday, today and tomorrow are not consecutive. They are connected in a never-ending circle." It shows that terrible events that happened 33 years ago are happening again, exposing hidden horrors in the city of Winden and putting immense strain on four families involved. The 10-episode series is sure to please fans of nostalgic sci-fi and Stranger Things, but it's gearing up to take a darker, brutal tone. Now available on Netflix.

50 years of Carol Burnett: CBS Anniversary Special

From The Carol Burnett Show's original soundstage in Los Angeles, the comedian, now 84, will reminisce about her favorite sketches and do Q&As with the studio audience in The Carol Burnett 50th Anniversary Special. The special also will have appearances by original cast members Vicki Lawrence and Lyle Waggoner, costume designer Bob Mackie and other comedians including Jim Carrey, Kristin Chenoweth, Stephen Colbert, Jay Leno and more. The Carol Burnett Show was a pioneer in sketch comedy, running 11 seasons and earning 25 Primetime Emmys and eight Golden Globes. Catch The Carol Burnett 50th Anniversary Special at 8 p.m. Sunday on CBS.
