Lightning-Capitals: Tom Jones’ takeaways from Washington’s Game 6 win

Caps D Dmitry Orlov has one of the most wicked slap shots in hockey. When he stepped into one in the first period, Lightning D Ryan McDonagh threw his body in front of it and blocked it with his shoulder — just inches from his face. McDonagh showed right then that you have to be a full-grown human to play this game.

Whenever the Lightning gets in trouble (i.e. running around, giving up scoring chances, losing momentum), it puts the line of Ryan Callahan-Cedric Paquette-Chris Kunitz on the ice and things, seemingly, calm down. Is there a better so-called fourth line in hockey?

Ben Bishop was a great goalie for the Lightning, but is there any question that Tampa Bay made the right call turning the reins over to Andrei Vasilevskiy? He gives the Lightning a chance pretty much every night, even when Tampa Bay is outplayed. He will win a Stanley Cup. Maybe soon.
