Plans are shaping up for Bold Beginnings, an early childhood education initiative in the Hillsborough County School District.
With close to a half of all children entering kindergarten without sufficient preparation, the district wants to offer free preschool and also help families navigate other preschool offerings in their communities.
A central component is the creation of 400 preschool seats scattered in 32 elementary schools that have space available. No tuition will be charged and funding will come from the federal Title I program that aims to even equalize opportunities for low-income children.
These are the elementary schools that will offer free preschool: Chiaramonte, Roosevelt, Shore, Tampa Bay Boulevard, West Tampa, Bay Crest, Bellamy, Cannella, Hammond, Morgan Woods, Town N Country, Twin Lakes, Woodbridge, Kimbell, Mort, Pizzo, Shaw, USF/Patel, Broward, Edison, Forest Hills, Frost, Ippolito, Palm River, Cork, Jackson, Woodson K-8, Colson, Foster, Yates, Dawson, Gibsonton and Wimauma.
Classes will begin in August and the district is designing a marketing plan, using the “Ready Freddy” logo.
More information will follow when it is available.
