Greatest American Hero may return with female lead

Believe it or not, the Greatest American Hero could soon be returning to network TV, albeit as a reboot. Deadline.com reports that ABC has ordered a pilot of the show with an Indian-American female to play the lead role made famous in the '80s by William Katt.

The original series ran from 1981 to 1983 on ABC and starred Katt as a public school teacher who receives a special suit from aliens thus granting him superhero powers. (Yes, we did actually love this show in the '80s.) Robert Culp played his assigned FBI partner. The series' theme song – Believe It Or Not by Joey Scarbury – was a bigger hit than the show, eventually peaking at No. 2 on Billboard's Hot 100.

Deadline.com says the reboot will instead focus on a character named "Meera," a 30-year-old who fancies tequila and karaoke (much to her family's dismay) before being entrusted with a super suit of her own.

This won't be the first or even second attempt at restarting the Greatest American Hero franchise, but getting a green light for a pilot is a good start.
