The association between beards and brews is strong. Yes, craft beer lovers are a diverse and special group of men and women (don’t @ me on Twitter, beer people), but try visiting a local brewery and not finding at least one big, glorious beard behind the scenes.
And so it may come as no surprise that someone has named a beer for the bearded man of the moment, Buccaneers quarterback and NFC Offensive Player of the Week, Ryan Fitzpatrick (and definitely not a Dolphins defensive back).
Is St. Petersburg Brewing Company being opportunistic in naming its new double IPA “Fitzmagic?" Yes.
Is it still totally fun? Yes again.
“We here at the brewery believe that a man that passes for four touchdowns and 400 yards in the first two games of the season deserves a beer named after him,” the brewery wrote on Facebook on Tuesday.
They also noted Fitzpatrick has a beard that “rivals Jon’s," an apparent reference to St. Pete Brewing Co. head brewer Jon McCracken.
The 8.4 percent ABV double IPA made with citra and galaxy hops will be on tap at the downtown St. Petersburg brewery starting today at 1 p.m.
