Man arrested after 3-year-old girl in his care found wandering streets

PORT RICHEY — A 59-year-old man was arrested Tuesday evening after a 3-year-old girl in his care was found wandering outside alone, according to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said they were sent to Larry Dixon’s residence at 8710 Bench Dr. in New Port Richey at about 7:40 p.m. to make a welfare check.

A 3-year-old girl was found after she wandered into the middle of a road, "with no caregiver in sight," according to the arrest affidavit. Deputies did not say where the child was found.

Deputies said Dixon told them he saw the girl inside the garage near where he was working and didn’t realize the child was missing until law enforcement arrived with the girl.

A caregiver, whose name was not released by authorities, told deputies she left the child with Dixon while she ran an errand.

Dixon was arrested on a felony charge of child neglect. He was released early Wednesday morning from the Pasco County jail after posting $5,000 bail, records show.
