Does anyone else get as excited about lighting as I do? I’ve always been fascinated with the artistry that goes into lighting fixtures, and an exhibition now open at Florida CraftArt showcases fine craft artists’ take on these functional works of art. Approaches in "LightHeaded" vary from the natural, with pieces of wood cut so the light softly emanates, to a glowing series of miniature subway cars, adorned with graffiti from leading street artists, to Don Gialanella’s life-sized metal sculpture of a man, light pouring out where the heart would be (pictured). The gallery’s windows have been blacked out with a special black paint for maximum viewing pleasure. It remains on display through March 24, and the gallery offers docent tours at 1:15 p.m. every Wednesday There’s no admission fee. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday-Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. 501 Central Ave., St. Petersburg. (727) 821-7391. floridacraftart.org.
