A Pasco woman who worked for a North Redington Beach resort was arrested Monday, accused of embezzling more than $250,000 from her employer over a three-year period.

Valisa Ann Mathis, 46, of Wesley Chapel, managed the accounts at the DoubleTree Beach Resort, 17120 Gulf Blvd., sheriff’s detectives said.

After an internal audit revealed funds were missing, the hotel reported the suspected theft to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

A sheriff’s office investigation determined Mathis used direct deposit to place skimmed funds in her personal bank account from March 2011 to February 2014. Deputies said Mathis used the money for personal gain, including leisurely activities and monthly expenses.

Mathis, of 2945 Willowleaf Lane, was booked at the Pinellas County Jail on a charge of grand theft. Bail was set at $50,000.
