Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard, or State Road 60, in Clearwater has reopened after crews removed several girders from a bridge that was clipped by two tractor-trailers on Tuesday.

The Florida Department of Transportation said the road was reopened about midnight.

The trucks were eastbound on Gulf-to-Bay on Tuesday afternoon when they struck the massive girder, which peeled back part the roof of one of the vehicle’s cargo containers, transportation officials said.

No one was hurt, but the girder was bent and hanging loose after the accident, making it unsafe for cars to travel beneath the overpass.

Crews spent most of Tuesday and all of Wednesday removing four 100-ton, 200-foot girders from the bridge, then performed cleanup and signal work.
