A local hero came home to a surprise Thursday: his car had been overhauled.

Air Force Master Sgt. Matthew Feldhouse, who returned this week from Afghanistan, was presented with his souped-up 1998 Honda Prelude at The Shops at Wiregrass in Wesley Chapel, the shopping center said in a news release.

Feldhouse has served his country for more than 20 years as a military aircraft mechanic with 17 deployments. Before his last deployment to Afghanistan, his car broke down. While he was gone, neighbors, local businesses and friends, worked together to fix it up.

Taking part in the effort were the Warrior Men's Group of Grow Life Church, Auto Body Express, Glenn's Wheel Polishing, BJ's Custom Auto Upholstery, PPG Industries, LKQ Crystal River, Bill Currie Collision, Insignia Graphics, Medallion Elite Club, and residents of Wesley Chapel and Land O Lakes.
