YBOR CITY – Ybor City is going to the dogs Saturday – to the pirate dogs, that is.

Two krewes will have events featuring dogs dressed in their best pirate outfits as attention turns to the Gasparilla Parade season.

Both events are open to the public and benefit local animal protection groups.

The Loyal Krewe of Samuel Bellamy will host the fourth annual Barkarilla: The Pirate Pooch Parade from noon to 5 p.m. on the patio of A Dirty Shame, 1929 E. Seventh Ave.

The event includes a King and Queen of Barkarilla Contest, entertainment by a pirate magician, free pet photos, raffles and a pooch parade at 2:30 p.m. with prizes.

Admission is $5 for humans, no cover charge for the dogs.

All proceeds to benefit Animal Based Charities, a nonprofit that assists more than 70 animal rescues.
