While Northeast bakes, Tampa to see typical summer conditions
While the Northeast continues to bake under an oppressive heat wave, the Tampa Bay area will experience at typical July day - hot, with a good chance for afternoon thunderstorms. The high pressure system that is sitting over the northern U.S. is generating easterly winds that will push the storms to the west this afternoon, News Channel 8 meteorologist Leigh Spann said. After a sunny morning, midday clouds will build, generating a 50 percent chance of thunderstorms this afternoon into tonight with highs reaching 90. There is an even better chance for thunderstorms on Thursday, before tapering off this weekend.
