Scattered showers are possible today, but rain chances will increase later this week as tropical moisture makes its way to the Tampa Bay area.
There is a chance of an isolated storm today, mainly starting to the east and moving west this afternoon, with highs approaching 90, News Channel 8 meteorologist Leigh Spann said.
But the most significant rain chances start on Thursday as an area of low pressure in the Caribbean heads toward the Yucatan peninsula and into the Gulf of Mexico.
The system has a 50 percent chance of developing into a tropical system, according to the National Hurricane Center.
The system will spread tropical moisture throughout the region, driving rain chances to 50 percent into the weekend.
