Lower rain chances in Tampa as Chantal approaches state
Rain chances around the Tampa Bay area will dip today, but will ramp up heading into the weekend as Tropical Storm Chantal continues to approach Florida. A day after a powerful storm in northern Pinellas County spawned a waterspout in Oldsmar, storms again will push from west to east today, arriving on the coast this evening, News Channel 8 meteorologist Leigh Spann said. Highs will be in the low-90s under mostly sunny skies, with lows in the mid-70s. Rain chances will climb throughout the week as Chantal continues to gain strength as it enters the Caribbean. It is expected to approach the state this weekend, with its current track taking it north toward the Bahamas.
