Expect a repeat today of Monday’s weather in the Tampa Bay area, with a mostly sunny morning giving way to late-afternoon thunderstorms.
On Monday, a line of booming storms stretching from several counties formed in the early evening. At 7:30 p.m., a funnel cloud was spotted dropping near downtown Tampa but never reached the ground, according to the National Weather Service.
The storms are forming as an east coast sea breeze makes it across the state, meeting Gulf breezes over the Tampa area in the late afternoon, WFLA-TV meteorologist Leigh Spann says.
The National Weather Service calls for 50 percent chance of rain today.
Lows will be in the mid-70s and highs in the low 90s.
