Increased moisture means higher rain chances for Tampa area

After a clear, dry weekend, increased moisture and rain chances return to the Tampa Bay area to start the work week.

Winds from the east, shifting from the southeast later today, will help draw the moisture from the south, News Channel 8 meteorologist Leigh Spann said.

Temperatures will approach 90 today under partly cloudy skies, with lows in the low-70s.

Rain chances will increase through the week as the southeasterly winds will continue to draw moisture from an area of low pressure in the Caribbean that will move into the Gulf of Mexico and has a 30 percent chance of becoming a tropical system in the next five days.
