Rain chances will increase, as will the humidity, around the Tampa Bay area today and into the weekend as an area of tropical moisture spreads north into the Gulf of Mexico.
Some areas may see a stray shower this morning, and after a muggy start, temperatures will climb into the low-90s with a 30 percent of isolated thunderstorms, News Channel 8 meteorologist Leigh Spann said.
Those storms will begin to form around noon and generally will push inland through the day.
Conditions will remain steamy overnight, then rain chances will climb to 50 percent as the tropical system — which has a 30 percent chance of development — drifts to the northwest. Most of the rain will be in the Gulf on Friday and Saturday, creating the potential for heavy downpours.
