Gulf winds create muggy conditions for Tampa area

Westerly winds off the Gulf of Mexico continue to draw moisture into the Tampa Bay region, creating hot, sticky conditions hot, sticky conditions.

After a muggy start, highs today will reach the low-90s, with a 20 percent chance of rain, News Channel 8 meteorologist Leigh Spann said.

Some inland areas could see a popup shower around noon, with the isolated storms — some of which could produce frequent lightning and heavy downpours — moving to the east later this afternoon.

Expect similar conditions Wednesday, with increased rain chances Thursday and heading into the weekend.
