The National Weather Service in Ruskin has issued as severe thunderstorm watch for tonight from Hernando County south to Lee County. The watch stands until 11 p.m.
The storms will move through the Tampa area from 4 to 6 p.m. with lightning, gusty winds and heavy rainfall, according to the weather service. Forecasters say gusts up to 70 mph are possible, as are tornadoes.
The rain will get heavier tonight and into the overnight hours.
Some showers could extend into the morning, but after that, skies will clear but highs Thursday will stay in the mid-60s, with lows in the mid-40s.
Highs gradually climb into the weekend, with sunny, pleasant conditions.
