Food events this week: St. Patrick’s Day block party, beer-tasting battle, food truck rally

ST. PADDY: BLOCK PARTY

We’ve got a heap of green-tinged, boozy shenanigans for St. Patrick’s Day, but Sea Dog Brew Pub Treasure Island is hosting one that is family friendly on Saturday. Doors open at 11 a.m. for an all-day festival featuring live music by the Dan Signor Project from noon to 4 p.m. and Modern Mayhem from 5 to 9 p.m. as well as games such as cornhole, shuffleboard, foosball and billiards. The restaurant will serve house-brewed Irish stout, Tullamore Dew whiskey shots, bangers, shepherd’s pie, Reuben sandwiches, Irish egg-rolls and other brogue-inducing snackables. 9610 Gulf Blvd., Treasure Island.

FOOD TRUCKS: RALLY

Start the weekend with a bang on Friday with a convoy of food trucks on the waterfront at Albert Whitted Park in St. Petersburg. Food trucks expected to attend include Surf and Turf Truck, Got Lobstah?, Twisted Indian, I Wanna Wok, Fiesta Bowls, Krepelicious, Vanchetta Food Truck, Flip’N Tasty Filipino Food Truck, Maggie on the Move, PB and Jelly Deli, Ikigai Sushi Bowls and Wraps, St. Pete Taco Lady, Mericafoodtruck, Casablanca Fusion and Fit Stop. Pick your foods, then avail yourself of the air-conditioned seating and live music. Event is free, foods priced separately. 6 to 11 p.m. 107 Eighth Ave. SE, St. Petersburg. (727) 892-5715.

360 ROOFTOP: HAPPY HOUR

A call I get routinely: Where can I watch the sunset? Another one: Any great happy hours out there? Here’s a double-whammy answer. The Kimpton Hotel Zamora on St. Pete Beach has launched a new daily 360 Rooftop’s Beat the Clock Happy Hour. It begins just as the sun is setting, let’s call it 6 p.m., with $6 champagne by the glass. At 7 p.m. that price is $7, at 8 p.m. it changes to $8, etc. until 10 p.m. Guests can enjoy a glass of bubbly and take in the view at the outdoor bar or on the brightly colored plush lounge seating. The attractive rooftop lounge also offers $3 domestic beers, $5 well drinks, $5 wines by the glass and $5 signature sangrias. Kimpton Hotel Zamora, 3701 Gulf Blvd., St. Pete Beach. (727) 456-8660.

BATTLE OF THE BREWERS: TASTEOFF

Just as Tampa Bay Beer Week ends, Florida Avenue Brewing Co. and 81Bay Brewing Co. go head to head in a beer-tasting battle at 6 p.m. Tuesday. Guests can savor four courses, each paired with two beers, one from each competitor, then vote for a favorite brew. Urban Brew and BBQ, 1939 Central Ave., St. Petersburg. Limited seating, registration required. $40. (727) 822-8919.

WORKSHOP: HEALTHY EATING

Hillsborough County is partnering with Junior Chefs of America and the Community Action Partnership to host Youth Affordable Healthy Eating Workshops, a series of four free sessions to empower families and youth ages 4 to 17 to eat right and overcome health barriers. These hands-on, interactive workshops will use healthy whole foods in conjunction with community partners and resources to establish the foundation for a strong, affordable healthy eating program that endures in the classrooms, school cafeterias and at home. The second of four workshops is scheduled for Saturday. Doors open at 10 a.m., and program activities will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Workshops take place at the Oaks at Riverview Senior Center, 101 E Kirby St. in Tampa. Reserve a spot by calling (813) 277-1649.
