Former Phillies player Kruk opening cheesesteak restaurant Tampa

Promising an authentic Philadelphia cheesesteak experience, former major leaguer John Kruk is planning to open a Kruk’s Philly Steaks in Tampa, according to the company’s website.

Kruk, who played 10 seasons with the San Diego Padres, Philadelphia Phillies and Chicago White Sox, and now lives in south Florida, opened the first Kruk’s in Naples in 2015 before expanding into Fort Myers.

The next Kruk’s is slated to open sometime this spring at 3841 W Kennedy Blvd, with another store set to open in Sarasota in the fall.

According to the company’s website, the restaurants will use "classic ingredients found in steak shops throughout the Deleware Valley," including the "wiz"-style cheese. They’ll also serve hot Italian pork roast sandwiches.
