Things to do in Pasco and Hernando counties starting Jan. 5

Festivals

First Friday Dade City: The streets of downtown Dade City will come alive with music and festivities from 5 to 9 p.m. Jan. 5. Bring the family or a sweetheart for numerous activities, music and carriage rides throughout the downtown area. Well-behaved pets on leashes welcome. Dade’s Battle: The annual Dade’s Battle Reenactment will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 6 and 7 at Dade Battlefield Historic State Park, 7200 County Road 603, Bushnell. The event is a day of living history, with a fully-costumed battle re-enactment (2 p.m. each day), period soldiers, Seminole and civilian camps, a trade fair, historic arts and crafts demonstrations, cannon firings, barricade building and 19th-century games and activities for children. Admission is $5 per person, with children 5 and younger free; parking is $3. Call (352) 793-4781.

Spittin’ Image: Brookridge AllStars Entertainment will present Spittin’ Image at 7 p.m. Jan. 8 at the Brookridge Clubhouse, 8150 Hampton St., west of Brooksville. Featuring identical twins Blain and Brian Swabb, a musical/comedy duo from Greenville, Ohio. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door. Call (352) 597-1357.

Curtain call

I’ll Be Back Before Midnight: Auditions will be at 2 p.m. Jan. 13 and 6 p.m. Jan. 14 at Stage West Community Playhouse, 8390 Forest Oaks Blvd., Spring Hill. There are roles for two men (one between the ages of 20-40, and the second 60 or older); and two women (both with ages between early 20s to early 40s). The director is Jay Ingle. Peter Pan: Arts in Motion will hold auditions for the children’s musical production of Peter Pan on Jan. 19 and 20 by appointment only. A mandatory pre-casting rehearsal and parent meeting will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Jan. 18 at Zephyrhills Alliance Church, 6251 Fort King Road, Zephyrhills. Registration is open to children in grades K-12 (limited to 50 youth); all those registered will be offered a role. Featured Artist Exhibit: An exhibit that features the works of local businessman and photographer J. David Wright will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Jan. 5 at Gateway Gallery and Emporium, 6216 Grand Blvd., New Port Richey. Wright’s photos represent New Port Richey and Florida life. ‘Studio’ opening reception: The Studio exhibit offers a glimpse into artist Myron Hansen’s studio. The reception is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Jan. 10 at Pasco-Hernando State College Rao Musunuru, M.D. Art Gallery, 10230 Ridge Road, New Port Richey. The exhibit remains on display through Feb. 21. Historic Views and Holiday Magic: The exhibit is on display through Jan. 20 at Uptown Art Gallery at Brooksville City Hall, 201 Howell Ave., Brooksville. The gallery includes poetry on display from Just Poets, works from the Nature Coast Art League and photography from the Spring Hill Camera Club. Pottery jewelry and woodworking pieces are in two new display cases obtained with a grant from The Hernando County Arts Council. The gallery is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. Call (352) 540-3810.
