Audubon Meeting Features Photos

NORTH TAMPA - The Tampa Audubon Society and the Tampa Audubon Photo Club will hold a joint meeting and covered-dish luncheon May 17.

Dan Harley, Joe Bailey and other members of the photography group will share their work at the meeting at 11 a.m. at the Audubon Resource Center at Lettuce Lake Park, 6920 E. Fletcher Ave.

The event also includes the election of 2008-09 officers for the Tampa Audubon Society. Participants should bring a covered dish to share; the society provides drinks and paper goods.

The meeting will be preceded by a walk at 9 a.m. for beginning birders. Mary Keith and Ann Paul are in charge of the walk.

Luncheon Meeting Set For Garden Club

NORTH TAMPA - The North Tampa Garden Club will meet at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Morrison's Buffet and Grill, 2920 E. Busch Blvd.

Concert To Benefit Violence Shelters

NORTH TAMPA - Skipper's Smokehouse will host the 13th annual Take Back the Night to benefit Tampa Bay area domestic violence shelters including The Spring.

The concert will be at 5 p.m. Sunday at Skipper's, 910 Skipper Road.

The Women's Blues Revue, Liz Pennock & Dr. Blues and Denise Moore are among the performers.

Nonprofit Groups Holding Events

TAMPA - Many nonprofit groups have events scheduled, including:

•The Bridging Generations Breakfast, sponsored by Seniors in Service. The event will be Tuesday at the Centre Club, 123 Westshore Blvd.

Registration is at 7:30 a.m., and breakfast is from 8 to 9 a.m. There is no fee to attend, but reservations are required. To make a reservation, call (813) 932-5228, Ext. 226 or e-mail nmcwilliams @seniorsinservice.org.

The 24-year-old Seniors in Service sponsors programs such as Foster Grandparent and Senior Companion to help seniors and children.

•The Apple Appeal: An Evening at One Buccaneer Place, benefiting the Hillsborough Education Foundation.

The first-time event, with music, food, beverages and a private tour of the Buccaneers facility, will be from 7 to 11 p.m. Friday at One Buccaneer Place. Gayle Sierens, WFLA News Channel 8 co-anchor, is the emcee.

Lee Roy Selmon is the honorary chairman; Jim Major is the chairman; and the committee members are Pat Harris, R. Duane Johnson, Laurie Johnson, Barbara Major and Marilyn McPhail.

Tickets are $250 per person and available by calling (813) 231-1901. It is a dressy-casual affair.

•The sixth annual Tuxes & Tails, benefiting The Humane Society of Tampa Bay.

The black-tie-optional event is from 6 to 11 p.m. May 17 at the TPepin's Hospitality Centre, 4121 N. 50th St. It includes dinner, celebrity fashion models teamed with pets, and live and silent auctions. Cynthia Smoot and Russell Rhodes are the emcees. Tickets are $125 each and available by calling (813) 876-4150.

•Koncert for the Kids, benefiting the Pediatric Cancer Foundation.

The event will be at 6 p.m. May 17 at the Ritz Ybor, 1503 E. Seventh Ave. It will feature local celebrities, media personalities and members of the community in karaoke performances. Tampa Bay Buccaneer Michael Clayton is among the participants.

The event also features an auction with sports memorabilia and other items.

Sunday in the Arts, sponsored by the La Damas de Arte.

The art exhibit and auction will be from 6 to 8 pm. May 18 at the Ritz Ybor, 1503 E. Seventh Ave. It will raise money for college scholarships and grant money for local organizations focusing on art.

Pan Am Women To Hold Luncheon

YBOR CITY - The Pan American University Women will honor mothers, induct 25 members and install officers at the organization's luncheon meeting May 17.

The registration is at 11 a.m. at the Columbia Restaurant, 2117 E. Seventh Ave., where mothers will receive carnations. The luncheon meeting is at noon. Nora Lamb, Lucy Herman and Ray Ann Favata are in charge of hospitality.

Members-at-large are Shirley Colmenares, Joanne Gonzalez and Sandra Sierra .
