PLANT CITY Tampa Electric Co. President Gordon Gillette has written a letter thanking Plant City firefighters for putting out a June 24 fire at the utility’s operations center.
The blaze caused an estimated $1.2 million in damage, but it would have been a lot worse had it not been for Plant City Fire Rescue, Gillette said.
“They put their lives on the line to save people and property,” he said.
A truck caught fire at the TECO garage at 1308 W. Grant St. and the flames spread to other trucks and a forklift. Firefighters’ quick actions prevented more damage and most importantly, any injuries, Gillette said.
Gillette presented a framed letter of thanks to the firefighters at the Aug. 26 city commission meeting.
