Sun City Center parade rings in holiday season
Sun City Center residents turned out in force last weekend to participate in and watch the golf cart parade. The annual event signals the start of the holiday season. Anne Cross, a member of the SCC Community Association board of directors, said she had more than 35 golf cart entrants in this year's parade. "This parade has not been active for five years," said Cross, who organized it. "It had lost its novelty because we were trying to break a world record. We are revamping it. I have not seen this kind of creativity in years." She said winners in the Home Owners Association, business, individual, house of worship and club categories received prizes including a crystal vase that she likened to the Ryder Cup of golf cart parade.John Allen and Gene Bolger said they spent about four hours decorating Allen's golf cart. Allen said it was more fun than decorating a Christmas tree. Martha and Larry Lotz, who live on North Pebble Beach Drive, invited their neighbors to sit on chairs in their driveway and watch the parade. "It's neat to watch everyone who decorated their golf carts and have a good time," Martha said. "It gets us in the Christmas spirit." In addition to people lining up along the parade route, people with undecorated golf carts also lined up on the sidelines to watch as the parade passed by.
